Education Vs. Schooling: Is it The Same? - Learn Liberty

Think back to your time in high school. Did you ever be of the view that you were in prison? Did you ever be of the opinion that you were on a machine that had its purposes and goals and had no being linked to what you wanted to do or achieve? If you did, then you shouldn't be surprised, since this manifests the particular characteristics of what the modern institution is.

The Prussians fabricated the current school after 1806. Before then, education was delivered in numerous different ways. What we think of as local schools was built in that limited duration and place. And it was invented for a very particular determination, which was to produce loyal, submissive themes and soldiers and people who would likewise be productive and passive laborers. It's this that is one reason why the institution is the path it is and has the features that it has. It explains why it is that the school day is divided up into rigid time-structured blocks. It explains why it is that the organization of the school is hierarchical and most organized. It explains why it is that people are taught with beings their age instead of beings who are at the same theater in the best interests or cleverness as themselves. And it explains why in numerous school systems one of the functions of the system is to direct beings into marked life footpaths to sort out young people into different kinds of vocation radicals.

To the fullest extent that education does take place in class, it's a joyous collision or a by-product. Now there are a lot of people who work in class who believe that education, in fact, is the main point of what they're doing and who are trying very hard to educate the people in their charge. However, the problem is that the whole system they're working in--the path it's set up, the way it's organized--is unfriendly to that goal and endeavor are difficult to determine. And any success they have is gained against the odds. What we need to realize is education and schooling are not the same things. In knowledge, because we think that schooling is the same thing as education, we have a radically impoverished suggestion of what education is and "could've been."

Why, for example, do we assume that school should only come about at one theater of a person's life? Education is something that can take place during all stages of someone's life and surely should do. Why assume that we have to educate people the same age altogether? Surely this is a crazy path of doing it. Why do we have to deliver education in the most structured and formalized way that class requires us to make love it? Education is something which is crucial for most people's lives. What we need to do is to get away from the suggestion that class is the only path in which we can deliver education.
